OpenOffice version 3 is set to release on October 13

This is cool, openoffice (the makers of software equivalent to MS Office) is going to release the version 3 of OpenOffice software on the 13th of this month (October).

That’s a must see and definitely a must try, I wonder what’s the new added feature they’ve included on this newest version? Hmm, I’m excited.

For all of those who doesn’t know what is an openoffice, openoffice is a FREE application suite that includes:

- Writer (similar to MS Word)
- Calc (similar to MS Excel)
- Impress (similar to MS Powerpoint)
- Base (similar to Microsoft Access)
- Draw (A vector graphics editor comparable in features to early versions of CorelDRAW)
- Math (A tool for creating and editing mathematical formulae, similar to Microsoft Equation Editor)

and is equivalent to MS Office application.

One thing to take note when you use this software is that you need to change the default file extension when you’re saving your file. It is because MS application cannot read any openoffice file extension (unless you have a converter ~not sure about this because I haven’t tried converting it myself, this is only according to my friend, to make sure, check it out yourself) BUT if you’ll change it to like .doc for documents, MS Word can then read it.

In other words any files saved in MS format file extension are all readable using openoffice BUT files saved using openoffice file extension (like ODF), are not readable using MS Office App. It only works one way.

Here’s a clipping of the article:

OpenOffice, intended to be a free, open-source alternative to Microsoft Office, released the beta version of 3.0 in May. OpenOffice 3.0 will feature a new Start Center, icons, and zoom control in the status bar, as well as support for the “.docx” file format used by Microsoft Office 2007.

The release candidate also includes additional, technical updates, details of which are provided on the OpenOffice Web site.

Blindness

There’s a new movie entitled “Blindness” and it was released in theaters last October 3. I hope you were able to watch it. The movie was brought to us by iamblind.org, a website where ARG gamers around the world interact.

As mentioned above, Iamblind.org website is a community type of website where ARG gamers meet. ARG or Alternate Reality Game is a game of mind where members are given a problem to solve and since it’s online, they can interact (send email, photo, video) with each other to help solve the problem.

Nice huh?

I can sense that there’s some type of bond that connect the members. Amazing isn’t it? Come and check out i am blind dot org now!

The sky-rocketed EC popularity

Good morning :-) , how’s your day so far?

Mine is ok, I’m already done EC dropping and I am currently reading tech articles right now. So what’s up with the outage in EC yesterday? I have no idea on what’s the reason but they were back online after some minutes, which is good because (I think) they have thousands of users.

Compared to exchange post from Smorty (that wants to help their bloggers boost the website traffic), EC dropping sky rocketed its popularity. Imagine how our technology evolved? So fast huh?

Come to think of it, I think the PR issue from google brought some good purpose too. Look at how the programmers/creators/web designers have come.and as always, thanks a bunch for them.
