Shopping spree

I feel like buying another gadget again :D . I want a new laptop and a new digicam.. I don’t know why but I get so addicted on changing gadgets. I was into changing cell phones when I was in the Philippines but when I got in here in the States, I don’t feel like buying one anymore :D .

it was probably because I’m just in the house and I don’t really need it. But really, I am looking for a digicam right now and a laptop. I want to try the thin lpatop from Mac or the thinkpad from Lenovo.
*bisan way tarong trabaho hala shopping japon..hehehe*

Anyway, I’ll buy one soon ;-)

The World’s Most Expensive Cell Phones

If you think that your blackberry or nokia, or sony ericsson is an expensive cell phone, well think again. I was so amazed while reading this “posh” cell phone today and guess what, 1 cell phone cost $134,000. Holy Cow!!?! That is equivalent to Php6 million + in Philippine money. My God, a tiny little cell phone can buy me a business, house and lot and possibly a vacation house..hehe

Even a $40,000 iPhone seems tame compared with the 8800 Arte from Austrian designer Peter Aloisson. The luxury Nokia phone is posh to begin with, featuring designer ringtones and wallpapers and an 18-karat white gold finish.

Encased in more than 680 pink and white brilliant-cut diamonds — sparing only the screen and slide-out keyboard — the embellished phone is a marvel.

And, at 85,000 euros ($134,000), it’s also the price of a college education.

Whew, they are that rich huh?

Oh My God!?! $61 million?

Ebay is in a BIG trouble. I remember that I posted an article about them being sued and today, the news says that Ebay is ordered to pay $61m to pay for the damages. Whew!?!

A French court ordered eBay Inc. to pay more than $61 million to a high-end fashion company Monday because counterfeit goods were sold on the auction site.

The fashion company, LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA, is home to such prestigious brands as Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, Fendi, Emilio Pucci and Marc Jacobs, and had complained that it was hurt by the sale of knockoff bags and clothes on eBay.

Pierre Godet, an adviser to LVMH Chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault, said the Paris court’s decision was “an answer to a particularly serious question, on whether the Internet is a free-for-all for the most hateful, parasitic practices.”

AP Interview: Ex-Intel head pushes electric cars

Former Intel Corp. Chairman Andy Grove has a knack for sensing when circumstances should force changes at a company or an industry — and how to respond.

He even has coined a term for it: the “strategic inflection point.” Now the retired chairman of the world’s largest computer chip maker thinks the term applies to energy and transportation, where record-high gasoline and oil prices have spurred interest in alternative energy sources and next-generation vehicles.

During the past year and a half, Grove has created his own crash course in electric power, plug-in hybrid vehicles and finding ways of shifting the nation’s fleet of vehicles from gasoline. His goal: To draw more attention to electric vehicles.

“The most important thing I would like to do is light that almost half-assumed truth up in neon lights: Electricity in transportation has to be done. It is urgent. It is important that everything else is secondary,” Grove said in a recent interview with The Associated Press.

Microsoft to stop selling Windows XP on Monday

Microsoft Corp. is scheduled to stop selling its Windows XP operating system to retailers and major computer makers Monday, despite protests from a slice of PC users who don’t want to be forced into using XP’s successor, Vista.

Once computers loaded with XP have been cleared from the inventory of PC makers such as Dell Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Co., consumers who can’t live without the old operating system on their new machine will have to buy Vista Ultimate or Vista Business and then legally “downgrade” to XP.

Microsoft will still allow smaller mom-and-pop PC builder shops to buy XP for resale through the end of January. A version of XP will also remain available for ultra-low-cost PCs such as the Asus Eee PC.

A group of vocal computer users who rallied around a “Save XP” petition posted on the industry news site InfoWorld had been clamoring for Microsoft to keep selling XP until its next operating system, Windows 7, is available. The software maker has said it expects to release Windows 7 sometime in 2009.

New Wash. law bans hand-held phones while driving

Driving with one hand on the wheel and the other on a cell phone is no longer an option for Washington state drivers.

On Tuesday, they join more than 28 million others nationwide who have to hang up their cell phones or use hands-free devices. Violators can face a $124 ticket.

“We’ll continue to see more legislation as more devices go in a car,” said Matt Sundeen, who has monitored cell phone laws for the National Conference of State Legislatures. “A lot of people agree these types of devices are distracting, but the real question is — are they so distracting they need some type of restriction?”

California and Washington are just the latest states to enact laws that prohibit the use of hand-held cell phones while driving. Both state permit hands-free devices. source
