Japanese scientists create microscopic noodle bowl

Japanese scientists say they have used cutting-edge technology to create a noodle bowl so small it can be seen only through a microscope.

Mechanical engineering professor Masayuki Nakao said Thursday he and his students at the University of Tokyo used a carbon-based material to produce a noodle bowl with a diameter 1/25,000 of an inch in a project aimed at developing nanotube-processing technology.

The Japanese-style ramen bowl was carved out of microscopic nanotubes, Nakao said. Nanotubes are tube-shaped pieces of carbon, measuring about one-ten-thousandth of the thickness of a human hair.

Carbon nanotubes are being explored for a wide range of uses in electronics and medicine because their structure endows them with powerful physical properties such as a strength greater than steel.

Comcast.net site was hacked last night

Holy cow!! Hackers attacked again. Geez, imagine they were able to penetrate the Comcast Corp.’s Web portal and it is for HOURS..whew.

Now I’m really wondering about my experience with friendster this morning, I guess they were hacked too..

Comcast.net site is hacked briefly

Hackers took over Comcast Corp.’s Web portal for several hours overnight, denying 14.1 million subscribers access to the cable company’s site for e-mail, news and technical support.

The front page of Comcast.net went down shortly before 11 p.m. EDT Wednesday and was replaced with a note saying the hackers had “RoXed” Comcast, according to postings at BroadbandReports.com.

Comcast spokeswoman Jennifer Khoury said Thursday that the hijacking had been reversed in the morning, but that it was possible some users were still unable to access Comcast.net and Web-based e-mail.

There was no indication that e-mail or other private information was compromised by the attack, Comcast said. It didn’t stop customers from getting their e-mail through programs like Outlook.

The hackers appeared to have seized control of the Comcast.net domain name at registrar Network Solutions Inc. and redirected it to other servers, Khoury said.

Patience played the biggest part

One thing I’ve learned about shopping is that, you’ve got to have patience if you want to save on your spending.

Just like the newcomers in blogging, they always complain to me that writing/composing a single entry is draining and how much more maintaining it? Oh well, if you’re not patient and doesn’t have the drive/passion about being online, then probably blogging is not for you.

Anyway, with regards to shopping..we roamed around our town last week to buy bathroom fixtures and plants for our backyard. We first went to Home Depot and my gulay, the prices are so high. So then we routed to Lowes, Kmart and Walmart. And you know what we found? A HUGE price difference.

A regular tree (around 6ft tall) in Lowes and Home Depot is $100+ while in Kmart it is $50+ and in Walmart, it’s only $19.99…it’s even on sale for $15.99.

When we were in Home Depot and Lowes, I told hubby that we might buy 1 tree per pay day..but I changed my statement when we went to Kmart, I told him..let’s buy now and he said let’s try Walmart first. So when we went to Walmart, I told him to bring the trees that I want in the counter and I’ll pay for it :-D .

We actually had fun last week and even if it’s tiring, it was fulfilling.

What happened to Friendster?

Is friendster hacked? I tried logging on today (around 6 20am MT) and the website is not loading..

If it’s not hacked instead they’re just doing update/upgrade of their software..then it is weird unprofessional to not pass the messages to users.

Update:

They’re up and back now :-) (8 00am MT)

Firefox 3 is coming soon

I am a mozilla user and I love it. I can’t wait for the release of this new browser…this would be awesome..

And for those who wants to try Mozilla, here’s the link where you can download it..

Mozilla Shooting for Record Books With Firefox 3 Release

Mozilla is aiming to create what may be the geekiest world record ever with its upcoming Firefox 3 browser release.

The company on Wednesday started a campaign asking users to pledge to download the next full release of its browser on the day it is available so the release can set a Guinness World Record for the largest number of software downloads in 24 hours.

Mozilla has not yet unveiled exactly when Firefox 3 will be available, but expects it could be as soon as mid-June. A test release of Firefox 3 is currently available online.

The company is deeming the day of its release “Download Day” and is asking fans to not only pledge to download Firefox 3, but to host parties to encourage friends to download with them, and place “Download Day” buttons on their Web sites as reminders of the big day.

Currently there is no world record for software downloads; Mozilla is trying to create one with Firefox 3 and its Download Day festivities.

Android software for mobile phones..have you heard about it?

This is my first time to hear about this but tell you what, I’m so excited on the release of this new software. That’s what you call “the technology updates/changes in split seconds huh?

Google shows off ‘Android’ software for mobile phones

Google Inc. showed off its nearly completed mobile software system to about 3,000 computer programmers Wednesday, hoping to boost its services and advertising for people on the go.

Although brief, the demonstration at the Internet search leader’s annual developer conference in San Francisco represented the most extensive public look so far at “Android” — an open-source platform being designed for “smart” phones and other mobile devices that surf the Web. Android was first announced nearly seven months ago.

The bells and whistles unveiled Wednesday included: a way to unlock phones by drawing a specific shape on the touchscreen instead of entering a password; bookmarks for favorite Web sites on the device’s home page; a “compass” tool that automatically roams with the phone while a user looks at photographic images of a city map; a magnifying tool to zoom in on Web content; and a mobile version of the video game “Pac Man.”
