Some insights about PDOS or CFO Seminar

Hi everyone, let’s talk again about my US Visa procedures and one of the requirement before I came here in the US. But firstly, let me emphasize this: All of what I’ve written here are based on my OWN experience; the process may or may not change so I would advice you to do more research on this topic, also this is only for K1 or fiancee visa procedures.

Before you buy your luggage, pack your things or get that despedida (go away) party, you need to attend a Pre Departure Orientation Seminar first to get a CFO stamp in your passport. Remember, YOU CAN’T LEAVE THE COUNTRY WITHOUT THE CFO STAMP. Why? Our government requires it and they are so strict when it comes to this rule. Plus you don’t want to delay your flight just because of this right?

Now, what is a Pre Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) and what is a CFO Stamp?

PDOS is required for all Filipino emigrants or those leaving the country to settle permanently abroad. The main topic of this seminar is to help the emigrants prepare themselves for settling overseas. Like adjustment to a new environment, how to deal with homesickness, travel regulations, immigration procedures, cultural differences, settlement concerns, etc. 12 years old and below are exempted from attending the PDOS and are only needed to be registered to the CFO Office.

PDOS Requirement:

  • Photocopy of passport biographic page
  • NBI Clearance
  • Fee of Php250 or roughly $5.50

CFO Stamp is a sticker, stamped into the emigrants passport. This stamp served as a proof that this visa holder has attended the PDOS and is now ready to travel.

  • Fee of Php400 or roughly $9

I signed up smorty.com membership form today and guess what; they approved me and this blog. I joined this blog advertising simply because I believe on their ads campaign. Malu who?!

I’ve been doing my regular bloghopping today and huli man ako sa balita pero nakahabol pa rin — Malu Fernandez is very controversial in the Philippines last week. But the latest report says, she already resigned from her previous job.

Did she learned from this experience? I hope yes because if not, siya na rin ang sumira sa lahat ng pinaghirapan niya. Nasaan na ang kredibilidad kung puro panglalait, pangungutya at pagiging matapobre ang laman ng isang artikulo? Yes we are free to talk, to say whatever we want BUT let’s take into account that there is a big difference between a responsible journalism and bigotry and being prejudice. She stated that, she received a lot of death threats, talaga?! O baka naman she was forced to resign. Di na kikita ang newspaper, lagot –nasira tuloy ang pangalan nang dahil sa kanya. Yikes!! Haay Malu, kahit ako’y malayo na, naaamoy pa rin kita. Pero sana naman, you’ve learned from this experience..kasi alam mo naman, mahirap makalimot ang pinoy. Kung naka-boycot ka ngayon, asahan mong bibilang ka ng taon bago mo maibalik ang tiwala ng tao.

I went to my very first OB- Gyne check up today. It’s for my pap smear check up and I’ve learned that- as a newly wed this is necessary. I really didn’t want to (still shy and timid) but thanks to my husband he opened up my mind. After all, it’s for my health.

Here’s a clipping on what’s a pap smear is all about:

  • What is a Pap test? The Pap test, also called a Pap smear, checks for changes in the cells of your cervix. The cervix is the lower part of the uterus (womb) that opens into the vagina (birth canal). The Pap test can tell if you have an infection, abnormal (unhealthy) cervical cells, or cervical cancer.
  • Why do I need a Pap test? A Pap test can save your life. It can find the earliest signs of cervical cancer – a common cancer in women. If caught early, the chance of curing cervical cancer is very high. Pap tests also can find infections and abnormal cervical cells that can turn into cancer cells. Treatment can prevent most cases of cervical cancer from developing. Getting regular Pap tests is the best thing you can do to prevent cervical cancer. About 13,000 women in America will find out they have cervical cancer this year. And in 2004, 3,500 women died from cervical cancer in the United States.

So my advice for other girls; newly wed or not, get the check up now or it might be too late the next day.
