MySpace to block illegal use of copyrighted music

NEW YORK (Reuters) – News Corp.’s MySpace.com on Monday said it had licensed a new technology to stop users from posting unauthorized copyrighted music on the social networking Web site and oust frequent violators of its policy.

The move comes amid pressure from major studios and record labels against popular online sites like MySpace and YouTube, which they accuse of infringing the copyrights of their artists’ music and videos.

MySpace, one of the most popular sites on the Internet, licensed technology from privately-held Gracenote allowing it to review music recordings uploaded by community members to their profiles.

The technology compares those filed with Gracenote’s database of copyrighted material and can block uploads without proper rights. Terms of the licensing agreement were not disclosed.

This..

I always spend an hour or two doing this.

And my day would not start without this

I can wear this or this in the office.

And when I get bored, I always play this

I love eating this anytime of the day.

And how I wish I can have this.

Did you know that I go crave on this

And I’m already tired doing this

I’m glad I almost have this

And right now, I really miss this and this

Reminiscing: 100 Island here we come

Carlo and Gladys in 100 island last January '06
This photo was taken last January when Carlo and I went to visit his relatives in Alaminos, Pangasinan. We had fun in there and his cousin’s and relatives were all nice people. Ito yung docking port papuntang 100 island and medyo paraming turista during that time.  Thanks to the person who took this picture. He owns a souvenir shop beside this place where we took the picture. 100 Island is just 15 to 20 minutes boat ride away from the docking area.

Kung bakit ako nawala ng ilang linggo..

Whew!

It’s really been a long time since I last updated this page. I had a real pretty busy past weeks, halos di na ako makagalaw because of the heavy loads of work, school and my Visa papers. If I was complaining of getting bored and doing nothing at home before, iba na ngayon, I’m complaining about always getting “overstress”. Ang mukha ko, nasa shiatzu kada weekend, nagpapamasahe. Nakakapagod na rin, masyading challenging. Pero ok lang kasi at the end of the day, nakangiti na ko, remembering the accomplishments I did for that day.

This is my last semester at school, pagkatapos nito, mag-re-review na ko for my upcoming compre exam. I was thinking of getting a 3 month programming course pero parang di na yata kakayanin ng schedule ko. Palagi kaming nag-re-review ni Carlo about my Visa papers and ang daming dapat gawin at kunin. As of now, the upcoming exam and my visa papers are my first priority aside from my one true love–my work :) .

Dun yan sa bahay nag-sleep over nung weekend.

Thanks din sa inyong dalawa for the real friendship. I know that sooner or later, we would part our ways; but remember guys that I’m always here for you.

Si Evz din merong tribute, talagang sumaya ka ha. Haay naku sister, next time may bayad na..wala ng libre libre. Kidding aside, thanks ha, masaya din ako.

Salamat sa inyo..

Dabawenya wins 3 golds in World Dragon Boatfest

by Romy Sabaldan

FORTY-SIX year old Sandy Inigo-dos Remedios of the Philippines won three golds and a silver medal in the first International Pink Dragon Boat Council (IPDBC) Dragon Boat World Championships held recently at the Marina Bay in Singapore.

Further information relayed by Lolito delos Reyes, PRO of Sports Communicators Organization of the Philippines (SCOOP-Davao) reads:

The native of Davao City, who is a breast cancer survivor, was the only Filipino competitor in the 17-team event hosted by the Breast Cancer Foundation.

Dos Remedios, a member of the Manila Dragons Dragon Boat Rowing Team, was invited to paddle for the Dragons Abreast Gold Coast team from Queensland, Australia.

Her team won the gold medals in the 500-meter and 200-meter events for the 80/20 women and the 200-meter for 100 percent category.

“Bale, 80/20 consists of an 80 percent breast cancer survivor and 20 supporters,” said Dos Remedios, who is now based in Manila since 1981. She is the younger sister of sportsman Tommy Iñigo of the Ayala Group of Companies.

Her team also settled for the silver medal in the 100 percent BC survivors’ 500-meter race. The Gold Coast team also took the gold in the 80/20 500-meter mixed and another silver in the 80/20 200-meter mixed.

“I was touched when our Philippine flag was also waved together with the Australian flag during the last awarding to recognize my lone participation,” said Dos Remedios, who first tasted her international stint in China last June 3-4.

The Manila Dragons women’s team finished third behind two China teams in the 600-meter of the 1st Shaoguan City International Dragon Boat Festival.

They also settled for the sixth in the 12th Guangzhou Dragon Boat International Tournament.

Dos Remedios, who started dragon boat paddling last November 2005 thru her husband Raymund, saw action last Sunday in the second leg of the Annual Regatta at the Manila Bay Walk.

Her team is the defending champion in the said event organized by the Philippine Dragon Boat Federation.

Dos Remedios paid a courtesy call yesterday to Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex together with Lito delos Reyes of Bugsay Dabaw, a group of paddling people in Davao.

Sandy came home to Davao City last summer with her family and paddled a single kayak from Anamarina Resort in Samal to the Island Buenavista – a three nautical miles distance.

“Uuwi ako this December sa Davao to try the night kayaking with my husband and kids,” she said.

The couple are blessed with four sons – Jose Manuel a.k.a. “Ito”, 17; Juan Carlos “Ian”, 16; Jaime Antonio “Io”, 14; and Jesus Roberto “Isi”, 9. (PIA XI)

Mobile phone technology used to track disease outbreaks Image

18 October 2006 – A pilot scheme designed to track the spread of serious diseases around the world using mobile phones has been rolled out in Africa.

Mobile phones that belong to health workers in Africa are being equipped with software that lets them easily send and receive information about outbreaks and also get information about patients and drugs. It sends data through GPRS networks or SMS data channels, and uses Java so that it’s compatible with many different handsets and operators.

Trials at the moment are going on in Rwanda and Indonesia, where it’s being used to track the spread of bird flu.

Gavitec AG Strengthens Services Partnership in Philippines

A subsidiary of Florida-based NeoMedia Technologies Inc. said on Friday it will strengthen its existing partnership with Omniprime, a Philippine mobile marketing company by finalizing a licensing contract.

The Germany-based subsidiary, Gavitec AG, a mobile technologies and marketing group, said the availability of Philippine government subsidies for its mobile and telephone market makes the country ideal for mobile marketing activities based on SMS or MMS.

“Omniprime is an important partner in the East Asia Pacific region, and as of today is the only company in the Philippines offering mobile solutions for ticketing, couponing and payment based on code-reading technology from Gavitec,” Dr. Christian Steinborn, a director of Gavitec AG said in a released statement.

RP, Taiwan, China growth area pushed

FILIPINO-CHINESE BUSINESSMEN HAVE proposed the establishment of a growth area that links the Philippines, Taiwan and southeastern China in a bid to stimulate partnerships among firms and harness the competitive advantages of the three economies.

Francis Chua, president of the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, said the idea was broached during the Philippine Investment Forum held recently in Xiamen City.

“The reaction is positive, but it has to be a policy among the private sectors,” Chua said. “However, this needs support from the governments to make it realizable.”

He explained that such a “Golden Triangle” would be beneficial to all parties and was appropriate considering that Beijing was looking at Southeast Asia as an area where it needed to establish economic leadership.

“The proposal is very bold in that this would bring in the Philippines as a factor to the joint development of the Chinese and Taiwanese economies,” Chua said.
